COVID-19 InfoWe wanted to reach out our customers, suppliers, distributors and wholesalers regarding the ongoing Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and to update you all on how we're currently handling our operations during these unusual times.
At the time of this writing, March 20, 2020, we are not aware of any confirmed cases in Yates or Steuben County in New York, where our mill is located and our employees live. Although there have been no confirmed cases as of yet, we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees and customers - this will continue to be our top priority.
We are doing what we can to ensure everyone is safe and informed, taking precautions in real-time to respond to this ever-changing environment. We are currently following the direction provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), as well as State and Local officials to implement procedures based on their guidance. Our crisis management team is monitoring the situation and actively meeting to assess new information as it comes in.
We have reinforced with employees based on CDC guidance that the best measures we can take are to continue to adhere to our GMPs. These include, but are not limited to, frequently washing our hands and coughing/sneezing into the inside of our elbow. We've reinforced it's important to wash your hands at every opportunity, but especially before touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
We've talked extensively about the need for social distancing both at work and outside of work, regardless as to whether you're presenting symptoms or not. Most importantly, we've made sure to stress to employees that the most important thing they can do is to stay home if they are sick or if anyone within their household is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
We've upped our cleaning and sanitation efforts to more frequently disinfect high-touch surfaces, tools, and locations. We've also asked all non-essential vendors, contractors, and visitors to reschedule their visit for a later date to minimize contact with outside people. We've also started to adjust our staffing levels to run with leaner crews for the time being.
Finally, we are communicating with our suppliers to address any potential issues that may arise. We believe our supply chain is strong and do not foresee any issues with our wheat or buckwheat supply. We've also reached out to our partners on the freight side. They have implemented updated procedures based on the best practice guidelines as well and are continuing to run at full capacity.
As of now, we are continuing to mill the same quality buckwheat and wheat products we have for the last 220+ years. If anything should affect that, we will certainly reach out to you to you as soon as possible with an update. If you have any updates on your end regarding estimated production needs, that would certainly be helpful to our planning purposes. Like you all, we hope to look back in a few weeks and think we were overly cautious, as that would mean we took the necessary steps to halt the spread within our respective communities.
